In my musical growth plan, I had picked four songs that I felt I would love to learn on the ukulele. However, since I have now, for the most part, learned the ukulele I have picked other songs of interest. I did accomplish my goal of learning “Riptide” by Vance Joy and posted it for my midterm. I also learned “7 Days” by Alessia Cara but found this song to not be as interesting on the ukulele. It has a simple rhythm and is another slow song comprised of mostly the same notes. I then learned “Slow it Down” by the Lumineers which had a few new chords in it and had a slow pace that showcased my voice while singing to it. I really enjoyed getting to bring my new found ukulele skills to my singing skills.
After this, my boyfriend asked me to learn “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen which I happily obliged to. This was fun because we both sang along and jammed out while I played the ukulele. Once I started to learn some chords it became easier to learn more and more and combine the ones I already knew with the ones I was learning. Lastly, I learned “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” by Elvis Presley which is just an absolutely beautiful song. I decided to post this as well for my midterm because it combined almost all of the notes I have learned on the ukulele so far. It also showcased one of the strumming patterns I have learned and allowed me to sing and play.
