Embroidery for dummies?

I had to really think about what I wanted to do for my free inquiry project. With so many options out there and so many different interests, it started to become overwhelming and I began to change my mind on the daily. I, for a long time, have been trying to find a healthy coping mechanism for my anxiety. When I am in a negative headspace instead of spiraling down the ever so tempting rabbit hole, I can lift myself up. I thought about baking but unfortunately my food budget each month was too low for all of those ingredients. I pondered about drawing but I always get self-conscious about showing anyone my work so I don’t know if I could commit to posting them online!  Finally, I settled on something I have wanted to learn for a long time but have always talked myself out of. I decided to learn how to embroider!

Now many peoples perception of embroidery is old lady quotes on frilly pillows and although they can be very pretty that isn’t necessarily the vibe I am trying to create. Embroidery as of recent has become a bit of a trend with people adding it to backpacks, jean jackets, shirts, etc. I got inspired by art Instagram accounts I follow who recently took up the art form of embroidery. I felt learning this skill could help with my anxiety because of the slow pace and precise nature of embroidery. There is lots of focus involved, it takes patience and in the end, you get something beautiful you made (hopefully!) Now I will admit I have been pretty overwhelmed with school as of late so the biggest moves I have made is ordering an embroidery kit online and watching youtube videos on different stitches. As soon as my kit comes though you best believe my next post will be mediocre flower stitches and a failed Pinterest attempt. I hope you can follow me on my journey of learning the art of embroidery and hopefully by the end we get decent at it!
