Embroidery chronicles

Last week I went to Jessica L’s house and she helped me learn how to complete a few stitches. She showed me where I was going wrong and how I can improve further on the stitches I already knew how to do. I worked on my straight stitch, my running backstitch and then decided to experiment. I set up my embroidery hoop and decided to try and make a weeping willow type flower around the word Oreo. I started with a basic forward stitch to make a stem and then created a base for the flower. I slowly went smaller until a cone shape was formed, I alternated between navy and a baby blue to make the flower.

Jessica taught me how to make a rose which on first attempt I messed up and had to pull everything out and restart. You start by making five stitches as if a simple pinwheel formation. You then enter from the very center and weave in and out between the stitches slowly curling up the string between the stitches to make a rose. I completed three of these around the word Oreo in different shades of blue. Lastly, I learned how to do a lazy daisy stitch. You start by going through the fabric twice and pull until almost making a simple stitch. You stop when you have a small U of string between the stitches and hold it. You make a  stitch to hold the string in this U shape and go around repeating this technique making five petals. When I tried to teach Jesica this stitch she did not quite grasp the idea quite yet. Mine turned out pretty good and for my second time embroidering and my first flower attempts, I am pretty happy!
