Coding and Presentations

Today’s class I was quite nervous to present. However, Sam and I felt very comfortable in front of the class because our peers were extremely supportive. I felt like we had done good research on our topic and developed a high level of understanding for improving math literacy through technology. This project was something near and dear to me and Sam’s heart. We felt like we wanted to know more about how to improve children’s engagement in math, enjoyment of math and love of math. I felt the other presentations helped me to understand how to engage French immersion practice at home, how to improve reading literacy, and how to help learners with health disabilities. Overall the presentations were thoroughly engaging and allowed me to gain a level of knowledge on each topic that I can use in the classroom.  In the second part of the class, we explored coding and how to implement this in our own classrooms. Rich McCue came in and presented to us on the importance of coding, and gave us a variety of resources to engage younger learners. This for me was very enlightening, I have never been great with online technology and being given lots of resources to help me learn and help my learners was a great introduction to the topic. Now that I am more educated on coding I will definitely be including coding in my lessons for my elementary school classroom. After this, I asked Valerie and Rich on how I would be able to type with my injured hand. They offered me help in finding a speech to text option I can install on my computer. This has been extremely helpful already as my hand gets very painful after typing for short periods of time. Allowing speech to text options in the classroom is helpful for many learners, it has been extremely helpful to me to get my work done.
